A Forgotten Coast wedding weekend fails for boring reasons: rain nobody planned, wind that eats the arch, a tide line that surprises a Gulf setup, guests split across three towns, and no one to drive them. Forgotten Coast Wedding Company treats those as planning problems, not vibes.
Rain
Summer afternoons on this coast often include a squall. It can be 20 minutes. It can be the entire cocktail hour. A “we will just move under the house” plan only works if the house, the tent, or the historic room was booked as a backup and the photographer, florist, and catering know the same address. Write the backup. Tell the vendors. Do not crowd-source it from the bridal party at 3 p.m.
Wind
Cape San Blas and open Gulf beaches are wind-forward. St. Joe Bay (WindMark) is usually kinder to florals and sound. Lightweight arches, table numbers, and unweighted signs are decorations until they are projectiles. Coordination includes asking every vendor what they will do when the breeze is not Instagram’s breeze.
Tide and sand
The Gulf here is not a dramatic tidal range like some coasts, but the water still moves, and the sand still swallows chairs. Setup windows matter. So do park and city rules about how far from the dunes you may put a ceremony. We confirm that with the property or permit, not with a guess from a stock photo.
Lodging
This is house country plus a small set of hotels. Mexico Beach, the Cape, St. George Island, and Port St. Joe do not share one pool of rooms. If 40 guests book late, they do not “find something.” They drive from Panama City or they skip the welcome party. A coordinator’s lodging map — who is where, what time they must leave for the ceremony — is more useful than a pretty save-the-date.
Transportation
Ride-share is not a plan. US-98, the Cape, and the island bridge all create timing. Someone has to own shuttles, designated drivers, or a van, including the people who will drink and the people who will watch children. We put that on the timeline with the same seriousness as the first look.
