When Mexico Beach fits
Choose it when you want a calmer beach, a smaller footprint, and you are willing to house people in Port St. Joe or mix lodging. Do not choose it because a listing photo looked empty. Empty in July heat with nowhere to eat is not the same as peaceful.

Mexico Beach after the rebuild — what a planner has to say out loud
Mexico Beach is the quieter Gulf town at the west end of this stretch. The ceremony picture is open water and a small town. The planner problem is inventory. Lodging and restaurant capacity are still thinner than Port St. Joe. Many weekends that photograph here house people in Port St. Joe and shuttle.
Public beach vs a booked venue
Most Mexico Beach ceremonies are public Gulf access, not a gated resort lawn. That means access rules, how far from the dunes you may set chairs, and whether vehicles can reach the sand. A rental house lawn is a different permit conversation than the public beach. We confirm which one you actually have.
Wind, tide, rain
Open Gulf wind will take an unweighted arch. The tidal range here is not dramatic, but the water still moves and the sand still swallows chair legs. A “move under the house” rain plan only works if that house was booked as the backup and vendors have the same address. Afternoon squalls are common in summer.
Parking, lodging, transport
There is no hotel row that absorbs 80 last-minute guests. Ride-share is not a plan. If people sleep in Port St. Joe, someone owns the vans and the departure time. If they sleep in Mexico Beach, they accept fewer dinner options. We will not sell you a listing photo that skips that choice.
Vendor travel
Hair, florals, and catering often come from Port St. Joe or farther west. The timeline has to include US-98, not a city 15-minute load-in. Coordination starts 6–8 weeks out so those vendors confirm arrival windows before anyone is in the sand.
